Once I press the Shift Lock Release Button near the shifter, it works perfectly. It comes out of Park and moves easily into other gears. I think it is an electrical problem related either to the sensor/switch for the brake pedal or something related to the wiring for the brake lights.

The cause is either a bad brake switch and no brake lights. If you have brake lights the issue is most likely the shift interlock solenoid.
